Summer Retreat with Saccanama and Mahashraddha, 28 June - 7 July
'To place the heart upon' - Exploring faith in Buddhism
This retreat is open to all who have done one of Triratna's introduction/foundation courses.
Along with metta, faith is a fundamental positive attitude in Buddhist practice and life. During this retreat, we will explore the rich range of teachings found in the Dharma on the topic of faith, or sraddha, the root meaning of which is ‘to place the heart upon’. Dwelling in the heart - with its natural response to beauty, truth and goodness - we will create an aesthetic and devotional atmosphere with chanting, puja, buddhanusati (recollection of the Buddha), meditation, talks and discussion. We will also ‘do nothing’ together, entering into what Sangharakshita calls 'the greater mandala of uselessness'.
Led by Saccanama who, until recently, was living at Adhisthana and running the Dharma Life Training courses for men and is now living and working at the Nottingham Buddhist Centre; and Mahasraddha, a private preceptor who, after many years of working in academia, is now director of The Abhayaratna Trust which provides financial and health-related support to Order members in hardship. Both Saccanama and Mahasraddha have many years experience of leading classes and retreats within Triratna and share a love of sraddha. They are also very good friends.
